Birders, head to the city of Huron on the shores of Lake Erie to catch a glimpse of a rare visitor to the Buckeye State, a roseate tern. It's the first documented sighting of a roseate tern in the state, said Jamey Emmert, avian education coordinator for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. It's very unusual to find this coastal bird so far inland.

McDonald's locations in Ohio are holding a school supply drive
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - McDonald's of Ohio kicked off their second annual school supply drive on Monday. This year, 380 locations across the Greater Ohio Region are participating, including 12 in the Lima area. BOWLING GREEN — The Bowling Green State University football team ranks in the top four in the Mid-American Conference in three key metrics in EA Sports College Football 25. The video game was released to pre-order customers Monday. It becomes widely available for purchase Friday. The Falcons’ offense was rated at 79, good for a tie for third in the MAC. The defense was also tied for third at 75, while the overall score of 72 ranks fourth. Tight end/fullback Harold Fannin, Jr., has the top player score on the team at 90. Southeast Michigan residents may hear sonic boom as 180th Fighter Wing performs check flight
(CBS DETROIT) - Residents in Southeast Michigan have the chance to hear a sonic boom Monday afternoon.The 180th Fighter Wing is scheduled to conduct a functional check flight between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. A sonic boom is a sound caused by shock waves created when an object moves faster than the speed of sound. The flight will occur in the Bowling Green and Toledo, Ohio, area. However, "residents across Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan may hear a sonic boom once supersonic speeds are reached," according to a social media post from the 180th Fighter Wing. Residents may also hear the boom even though the flights usually happen above an altitude of 30,000. Functional check flights are conducted after heavy maintenance on the aircraft. Putting the aircraft through maneuvers ensures everything works properly before returning to the operating rotation. "The 180FW appreciates the continued support from the citizens of Ohio as we continue to train in support of our missions," the 180th Fighter Wing said in the post.Flights could be delayed or canceled due to weather conditions.
Family of murdered couple speaks at defendants' sentencing
Eighteen months after the murders of Malinda Moore, 28, and Brent Roscoe, 36, their families had a chance to address two women involved in their deaths. Fourteen family members filled the spectators’ seats in the Lucas County Common Pleas courtroom of Judge Ian English for the sentencings Monday of Riley Franke and Camryn Chase. In April, Franke pleaded guilty to burglary and robbery and Chase pleaded guilty to two counts of murder. Judge English sentenced Franke, 20, of the 2300 block of Starr Avenue in Oregon, to 13 to 16 years in prison and Chase, 24, of the 500 block of Leach Avenue in Toledo, to two consecutive life terms with parole eligibility after 30 years. Chase faced more severe charges for her role as a planner and for actually entering the house to carry out the Nov. 10, 2022, robbery and murders. She did not, however, pull the trigger that killed the young couple. Their shooter, Prince Jones, 24, died in a shootout with police in East Toledo several hours after the crime.
Main Street railroad crossing in Swanton to close for two days due to roadwork
SWANTON, Ohio — The Main Street railroad crossing in Swanton will be closed for two days, according to the village's police chief John Trejo. In a social media post to the village's police department, Trejo said he was made aware of a safety sign crew setting up on Main Street at the railroad crossing Tuesday morning. Trejo said he spoke with the crew, who said they were replacing rails Tuesday and repaving the crossing Wednesday. Due to the roadwork, the crossing will be closed both days.
