Experienced Red Hawks volleyball team lead the way
MILTON Like most other area high school sports teams, the Milton High School volleyball team is looking forward to some semblance of a return to normal. Despite the fact that students in the Milton schools are back in masks due to a surge in COVID-19 cases in Rock County, fans are allowed at athletic events once more. ...
The home-and-home homecoming of 1963
Much like all collegiate football programs, Milton College had its share of quirky happenings during its 81-year existence that ended with the unfortunate closing of the school in the spring of 1982. In the early days there were wagon rides to Albion Academy, players with homemade protective gear, games against high school teams, and, until the 1920s, student-coached teams. One of the quirkiest moments in Milton College football occurred much later in the program’s history, Oct. 4-5, 1963, when the Wildcats played two homecoming games...

Ownership of Dave's Ace Hardware in Milton passes once again to an employee
If you pull into the parking lot at Dave’s Ace Hardware in the coming weeks, you’ll notice the usual seasonal changes. There are potted mum plants where not long ago petunias and merigolds were abundant. Pallets of potting soil sit outside soon to be replaced with sacks of salt to de-ice sidewalks. Inside the store, students are buying gym uniforms and padlocks for their school lockers. Those changes won’t surprise you. However, one will. On August 31, Dave Warren turned ownership of his store over...

Project Maria Art Jam set for Sept. 11
Usually by now, Shauna Wessely and other volunteers for Project Maria would be relaxing after putting on their annual Art Jam at Milton High School. Rather than its usual June date, the Art Jam will be held 2-6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 11. Wessely, co-founder of the group and a Spanish teacher at the high school, didn’t mind...

Milton-area teens share what’s on their mind in music video
“I don’t want to feel this way. My heart has not been OK. I’ve been broken so many times. I get caught between the lies. All these songs just make me cry. Some days I don’t know why. They say I’ll be alright but my brain says otherwise.” In a music video, Hans Horrigmo-Cook of Janesville and Jax Wells of Milton express thoughts like these, which they say they aren’t comfortable sharing person to person in conversation. Horrigmo-Cook is a freshman at UW-Eau Claire. Wells...
