Santa Rosa County naval air station receives top excellence award

MILTON, Fla. (WKRG) — Naval Air Station Whiting Field received the 2024 Commander in Chief’s Annual Award for Installation Excellence for the Navy.

According to NAS Whiting Field officials, the award, “recognizes the outstanding and innovative efforts of the people who operate and maintain U.S. military installations.”

The award was established in 1985 to “challenge the men and women of the Department of Defense” to find installations where military men and women have done an excellent job with their resources to support the defense’s mission.

Only six naval air stations received the presidential award for their support of Department of Defense missions.

“Community-military partnering is integral to the success of NAS Whiting Field,” said Capt. Paul Flores, NAS Whiting Field commanding officer. “We have 12 outlying fields we manage that facilitate our mission, each one of those has their own county we liaise with, and those communities as well help facilitate the mission.”
