Rescued Kinkajou in 'fair health' after wellness exam at Point Defiance Zoo
TACOMA, Wash. — Officials said the young kinkajou recently found at a Yakima rest stop is healthy after undergoing a wellness exam. The kinkajou was rescued by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Police. He was then taken to the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium in Tacoma to be examined while staff worked to find a safe place for him.

Work by more than 50 artists will on display at downtown galleries during Art Walk, fr0m 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 6. Children who visit the Harbor History Museum during Art Walk can try their hand at creating greeting cards from sea-life collages on handmade marbled papers. Artist Suzie Cowan will lead the lessons starting at 11:30 a.m. She’s the featured artist at the museum and her nature-inspired work is on display in the museum’s main gallery.

Melanie’s Park Opens at Thea Foss Waterway
After about a year of work, Melanie’s Park in Tacoma opened on Thea Foss Waterway earlier this spring. The $4.6 million project is Northwest-themed and features a play area that includes a curvy metal slide that whirls down a 36-foot-high tower and a log jam play area that pays homage to the site’s industrial history, a release from Metro Parks Tacoma said.
