Enrollment open for Milton schools' free preschool playgroup

MILTON — Applications are now being accepted for the Milton School District’s Lil’ Hawk Learners Pre-Flight Academy Playgroup.

The free sessions are offered on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9-10:30 a.m., starting Sept. 16, at Milton West Elementary School, 825 W. Madison Ave., and will include a mix of play-based learning, literacy activities and skill-building exercises.

The program is divided into five sessions over the course of the 2024-25 school year. Session 1 is from Sept. 16 to Oct. 23. The second session is from Nov. 6 to Dec. 18. The third session is from Jan. 6 to Feb. 19. Session 4 is from March 3 to April 16. The program concludes with one last session from April 28 to May 28.

According to a school district press release, the program is designed to cater to the diverse needs of children, fostering an environment where every child can succeed.

School district officials said it’s a “unique and inclusive educational opportunity” for children age 3 and 4 that “provides a stimulating and supportive environment where young learners can thrive and build a solid foundation to prepare them for the classroom environment.”

“It’s a step towards ensuring that every child has access to enriching early childhood experiences,” Director of Student Services Julia Garcyznski said.

The program, which aligns with the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards, is led by experience early childhood educators.

“This playgroup isn’t just about fun — although there will be plenty of that. It’s about creating intentional opportunities for all children to develop crucial early learning skills in a supportive and welcoming environment,” Garczynski said in the release.
