MILTON, WV (WOWK) — Milton City Hall is still packed with engineers as residents continue to voice their concerns over a major floodwall project.

The Huntington District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is taking any questions or concerns about the project. The new floodwall has been in the making for decades now and would reduce the risk of water overflowing into the central business district.

In the past, previous attempts at having the floodwall installed have failed because of a low budget.

“So this project is primarily located on the north side of the existing Mud River. And this project, once constructed, would provide flood risk management benefits to the majority of the Central Business District of Milton,” said Brian Lowe, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

In total, the project is worth 190 million dollars. Construction of the wall is still currently in the design phase. Once the wall is fully constructed, it is expected to reduce the chances of major flooding to 0.4 percent.

Engineers continued to take questions at city hall until 8:30 p.m.
