Clarios enters next phase in collaboration with Swedish firm
Automotive battery giant Clarios International of Glendale entered a joint development agreement with a Swedish company for next-generation sodium-ion batteries.<\p> While Clarios has built a $10 billion annual revenue business making lead-acid batteries and low-voltage lithium batteries, the company’s executives have said they recognize the need to advance in emerging technologies for automakers and the aftermarket. <\p>
WTMJ-AM expands show in another lineup change
After changes in its weekly lineup earlier this year, WTMJ-AM (620) announced yet another shift in its programming Tuesday.<\p> “What’s On Tap” hosted by Sandy Maxx will air from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. every weekday Monday through Friday, WTMJ-AM (620) announced Tuesday. The show, which focuses on arts, culture and creativity around Milwaukee and southeast Wisconsin, launched in November and originally ran from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. when the station wasn’t running broadcasts of Milwaukee Brewers or Milwaukee Bucks games.<\p>
Red Lobster closes 2 Wisconsin restaurants
Two Wisconsin Red Lobster restaurants are among the nearly 50 locations nationwide that closed suddenly on Monday as the company’s equipment and fixtures hit the auction circuit.<\p> Locations in Wauwatosa, at 2801 N. Mayfair Road, and La Crosse, 3333 State Road 16, have been included among those listed by the New York-based TAGeX Brands when it announced on its site the closure of numerous Red Lobster restaurants. The firm touts the auction as “the largest equipment auction ever.” <\p>
Milwaukee Rep starting work on new theater complex
As the Milwaukee Repertory Theater's wraps up its 70th season, the theater company launched into construction on its new Associated Bank Theater Center with a groundbreaking ceremony on Saturday.<\p> The $78 million renovation will include the creation of three performance spaces, a larger lobby that can be used for community events, the Herzfeld Foundation Education & Engagement Center to serve the theater’s more than 20,000 students annually, an expanded offsite production center employing hundreds of local artisans, and expanded venues with modern audience amenities.<\p>

The Milwaukee Public Museum has broken ground, and while the project is still years from completion, there is much work going on behind the scenes to make the upgraded community resource a reality.<\p> In addition to the construction work that will start later this month, the Wisconsin Wonders fundraising campaign is two years in. The new facility is expected to cost around $240 million, paid for via a public-private partnership. It includes $40 million in funding from the state and $45 million from Milwaukee County. The project launched a five-year private fundraising campaign in 2022 with a goal of raising $150 million. It had raised $80 million of that as of May 2024 when it broke ground.<\p>

Higher-for-longer rate environment means more uncertainty for CRE
Commercial real estate investors, owners and occupiers all have been monitoring whether the Federal Reserve will impose interest-rate cuts in 2024 after rapidly rising rates have substantially increased the cost of doing business.<\p> Earlier this month, the Fed signaled it needed to see more progress toward its inflation target of 2% and decided to maintain its key lending rate. At that meeting, Fed Chairman Jerome Powell said gaining greater confidence around inflation "will take longer than previously expected," although he also said he felt inflation would move back down in 2024.<\p>
