New Aurora Health Care president tackles role at lightning speed
Gabrielle Finley-Hazle says she was happy as president and CEO of a health system in Phoenix and wasn’t thinking about opportunities elsewhere until a recruiter contacted her about leading Aurora Health Care.<\p> When she accepted the Milwaukee position, she and her husband, Howard Hazle, decided to relocate immediately with their three school-age children, which involved a move on Thanksgiving weekend in 2023. <\p>
About 700 Milwaukee leaders celebrate 2024 Women of Influence: Photos
The Baird Center in downtown Milwaukee saw plenty of celebration Wednesday as 30 women were honored as part of the Milwaukee Business Journal's 2024 Women of Influence Awards. <\p> Nearly 700 Milwaukee-area business and community leaders attended this year’s event to honor southeastern Wisconsin women who lift the community and are helping shape its future. Restaurant veterans begin second act with wine shop
Behind the 2A Wine Merchants' name is a long history of friendship, business acumen and a consistent criss-crossing of career paths that eventually brought Rob Levin and Tony Bisciglia together to build a wine shop and tasting room in Milwaukee's Third Ward neighborhood.<\p> Veterans in the restaurant and hospitality industry, both Levin and Bisciglia have had extensive careers in restaurants across the United States. Those experiences transformed into a joint venture the day Bisciglia sat at New York's LaGuardia Airport, waiting to board a plane, when he gave Levin a call.<\p>
Dental clinic opening in Deer District
Signature Dentistry plans to open a clinic in ground-floor space at Deer District’s parking structure at the corner of North Sixth Street and West McKinley Avenue.<\p> The 1,200-capacity parking garage serves Deer District and surrounding areas and was developed in conjunction with Fiserv Forum with a connecting pedestrian bridge. The ground-floor space for the clinic fronts on McKinley Avenue and is marketed for a retail use while remaining vacant for several years.<\p>
Revised Cedarburg subdivision advances as panel endorses concept
While plans for a major new Cedarburg subdivision are still in the early phases, city officials are finding consensus around building hundreds of for-sale homes and condos on a family-owned farm property on the edge of the city.<\p> Homebuilding firm Neumann Co. is now proposing a total of 439 housing units on around 253 acres currently owned by the Grob family at the northwest corner of the intersection of Highway 60 and Highway I. <\p>
Employ Milwaukee CEO Chytania Brown resigns
Chytania Brown is resigning her post as president and CEO of Employ Milwaukee, the workforce development board for Milwaukee County, effective Thursday.<\p> Julie Cayo, Employ Milwaukee's chief planning officer, has been appointed by the Employ Milwaukee board of directors as interim CEO. A search for a new president and CEO will begin in the coming months as it will take time to assemble a CEO search committee, Cayo said.<\p>
7 Brew opens Kenosha shop to continue area growth
The first 7 Brew coffee came to Kenosha on Wednesday as owner Tommy Pennington continues to build the brand’s presence in Wisconsin.<\p> The Kenosha coffee stand, at 4706 75th St., is Pennington’s second in the state following the first that opened in Brookfield at 1010 S. Moorland Road in May of 2023. He has a third location planned for Mount Pleasant in July as well at 6031 Regency West Drive.<\p>

RNC unveils preview of stage where Trump will accept nomination
Republican National Committee chairman Michael Whatley said Wednesday work crews are creating “a world-class stage” inside Fiserv Forum that will facilitate “a world class television production” during the upcoming national convention in Milwaukee.<\p> The stage will be 26 feet tall and 60 feet wide with a backdrop of video panels, including nearly 1,200 high-density LED panels, said Anne Hathaway, chair of the RNC Committee on Arrangements.<\p>
Jordan Love becomes ambassador for American Family Insurance
Jordan Love is making business moves this offseason.<\p> The Green Bay Packers quarterback has signed on as a brand ambassador for American Family Insurance, the company announced Wednesday. He joins a cast of fellow ambassadors including Major League Baseball hall of famer Derek Jeter, Milwaukee Brewers left fielder Christian Yelich, "Property Brothers" stars Drew and Jonathan Scott and model and actress Kathy Ireland.<\p>
Wisconsin firms make big moves up Fortune 500
Wisconsin's contingent on this year's Fortune 500 list remained the same as in 2023, but a number of state companies made big jumps in the rankings, moving up dozens of spots.<\p> The big movers are led by American Family Insurance of Madison, which rose 58 spots to No. 243 on Fortune magazine's annual ranking of U.S. corporations based on annual revenue. The magazine reported American Family's revenue growing 23.1% to $17 billion.<\p>
Goodwill closing Milwaukee laundry facility
Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin and Metropolitan Chicago plans to close its laundry and linen services facility on Milwaukee’s northwest side and eliminate 136 jobs including those that the nonprofit states provide work opportunities and skill development for people with disabilities and other barriers to employment.<\p> The laundry operation, which provides services for health care providers, is part of Goodwill Manufacturing. The manufacturing unit is one of four tax-exempt organizations that include Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin and Metropolitan Chicago. <\p>
121-room Hyatt Place in Milwaukee sold
A 121-room hotel in Milwaukee's Timmerman West neighborhood on Silver Spring Road has been sold.<\p> Real estate broker Marcus & Millichap (NYSE: MMI) announced the sale Wednesday of the former Hyatt Place Milwaukee West, located at 11777 W Silver Spring Drive. Marcus & Millichap had the listing to market the property on behalf of the seller and procured the eventual buyer.<\p>
$17M DeMichele/Three Leaf apartments open near Downer: Slideshow
Residents this month began moving into a brand-new apartment building near Downer Avenue on Milwaukee's east side, marking an on-schedule completion of the $16.9 million project. <\p> The 55-unit building known as The Fitz was around 30% pre-leased at opening and the first leases began June 1, according to Joe Stanton of Three Leaf Partners, one of the project's co-developers.<\p>
Landlords’ financials draw increased scrutiny from tenants
As billions are set to mature within commercial real estate-backed loans, tenants are putting extra scrutiny on prospective landlords' financial wherewithal before signing leases.<\p> And while a preference for the newest or most-updated office towers that offer a bevy of amenities remains prevalent among tenants, so too is the appeal of leasing space from a landlord with limited or even no debt on the building.<\p>
Meatpacking plant closure will result in dozens of layoffs
Strauss Brands, which ended veal and lamb production at its Franklin plant in late 2023, said it will close its remaining operation for grass-fed beef and permanently lay off 70 employees.<\p> The company announced Monday it plans to relocate grass-fed beef production to Ruprecht of Mundelein, Illinois, which is a division of Kilcoy Global Foods. Kilcoy is based in Queensland, Australia.<\p>
Wauwatosa Chinese restaurant closes
A sign on the front door of Wauwatosa's Chinese Pagoda reads "temporarily closed," but a realtor who listed the building where the restaurant has operated for decades said it is not likely coming back.<\p> Tom Rademacher, with RE/Max, said the building at 7200 W. North Ave., went up for sale about three months ago and sold to an investor for $550,000 with $50,000 in credits.<\p>
Where typical home values have pushed higher than $1M
Nestled amid the palm trees of Jupiter Island, Florida, is a three-bedroom, five-bathroom house with a pool on a half-acre lot.<\p> The 2,798-square-foot house, only steps to the beach and offering ocean views, is currently listed on the market for $5.1 million. As of the time of publication, it's the cheapest house for sale on Jupiter Island, which boasts the highest median home value in America, according to Zillow Group Inc. (Nasdaq: ZG).<\p>
Oak Creek buys land next to Amazon warehouse
Oak Creek has purchased a vacant 14-acre parcel just north of an Amazon fulfillment center in a deal designed to reserve the land for a high-impact development.<\p> The city paid $5.3 million for the property at the southeast corner of West Ryan Road and South 13th Street in a deal that closed May 31, state records show. The seller was Ryan Business Park LLC, a joint venture between General Capital Group of Fox Point and Capstone Quadrangle of Waukesha.<\p>
