Wisconsin Badgers hockey teams to play at Wrigley Field on Jan. 4

The University of Wisconsin Badgers men's and women's hockey teams will play at Chicago's Wrigley Field in January as part of "The Frozen Confines: Big Ten Hockey Series" showcase.

The Badgers will play at the historic home of the Chicago Cubs on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025, the Big Ten Conference and Chicago Cubs announced Thursday . It'll be the first outdoor game at a baseball stadium for both Badgers programs.

The UW women's hockey team will play Ohio State ― a rematch of the past two NCAA championship games, which the Badgers won in 2023 and the Buckeyes won in 2024 . The UW men's team will play Michigan State, the defending Big Ten regular-season champions.

The games are scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., though it's not determined if the men or women will play first.

On Jan. 3, the Ohio State men's hockey team will take on Michigan at Wrigley Field , and Penn State will play Notre Dame. The order of the games is pending, but the start times are 5 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

This is one of UW hockey's few outdoor games in history

This is only the second outdoor game for the women in program history and the first for the men in over a decade.

In 2010, the UW women defeated Bemidji State , 6-1, at the Camp Randall Hockey Classic in Madison. The men's team played that day, too, beating Michigan, 3-2. On Feb. 17, 2013, the UW men beat Minnesota, 3-2, at Chicago's Soldier Field in the OfficeMax Hockey City Classic.

More recently, the men also played at Chicago's United Center ― tying Notre Dame, 2-2 , in 2019 and beating the Fighting Irish, 5-0 , in 2018.

Tickets for the Wisconsin women's and men's hockey games at Wrigley Field will go on sale to the public Friday, Aug. 30 at 10 a.m. CT through Cubs.com/BigTenHockey . All tickets will be digital through the MLB Ballpark app. One ticket is good for both Jan. 4 games.
