A 29-year-old Cedarburg man was seriously injured after he crashed his vehicle in the town of Grafton and then fell off of a nearby bluff at some point after exiting the vehicle, authorities say.

The driver, Colin Graves, was arrested on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated – second offense and failing to notify police of an accident, according to a Monday release from the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office.

At around 2 a.m. Monday, the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office received a report of the crash on Green Bay Road near Chateau Drive, according to the release. Deputies responding to the area located Graves' 2006 Subaru Impreza resting upon multiple trees with significant damage.

According to the sheriff's office, the vehicle appeared to have been traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to complete the turn at the Chateau Drive intersection, leaving the roadway and ending up in the embankment.

When deputies found the vehicle, it was empty. They searched for the driver, following a trail that led to the bluff at Lime Kiln Park in the Village of Grafton. The bluff, approximately 30 feet high, was heavily wooded and marshy below, according to the release.

Deputies heard Graves yelling from the bottom, stating he was injured and in severe pain. By 3:22 a.m., deputies located Graves in a field near the archery range at the bottom of the bluff. Graves told them he was the registered owner and driver of the vehicle that had crashed.

He also said he'd fallen off of the bluff into the marsh and dragged himself out to the field.

Graves was transported to Aurora Medical Center Hospital in Grafton, having suffered multiple injuries and being in severe condition, according to the release.

The Grafton Police Department, Cedarburg Police Department, Grafton Fire Department, and Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office Drone Team assisted with the incident.
