Happy Labor Day, folks. If you're planning on going to the beach today, there won't be any swim risks like yesterday , but it might actually be on the cooler side with a high temperature of 74 degrees. Highs will be in the high 70s for most of the week, with no chances for rain until Thursday.

    Tim Walz at Laborfest today

It's going to be a busy week in politics, and it'll probably stay that way until November. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the Democratic nominee for vice president, will speak at Laborfest in Milwaukee today around 2 p.m. Laborfest has hosted many a Democratic president or candidate before, including Joe Biden, Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.

Biden will also visit southwestern Wisconsin on Thursday , his first visit to the state since dropping out of the presidential race. Two days later, former President Donald Trump will hold his fourth Wisconsin rally of the year in Mosinee , campaigning at the same central Wisconsin airport he used as a venue in 2020 and 2018.

In case you missed it last week, the Wisconsin Elections Commission formally approved presidential candidates for the November ballot . Some Republicans have criticized WEC's decision to keep Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. on the ballot after he dropped out and tried to remove his name. Commissioners pointed to a state law that says candidates can't be removed from the ballot once they file nomination papers, unless they die.

When will fall colors peak in Wisconsin?

If you're like me, you're thrilled that summer is wrapping up and fall is on its way. Jim Higgins looks at the various tracking websites for fall colors, which draw from historical data for now. Weather determines when the colors will develop; a warmer autumn could mean the transformation will happen slower and later than usual.

One of the forecasts estimates peak color in the northern third of Wisconsin circa Oct. 9, across the state's central third around Oct. 16, and in the Milwaukee metropolitan area and southern Wisconsin by Oct. 20. Surprisingly, observers in Langlade County and Hudson already report 5 percent color, with both estimating peak color the first week of October.

Read Higgins' story for more fall foliage forecasts , and an interesting explanation about how temperatures and cloud cover produce different shades of red leaves.
