'Dancing with the Stars' Week 2 recap and double elimination: Did UW-Madison 'Bachelorette' Jenn Tran, Ilona Maher and Anna Delvey survive?

By Hannah Kirby, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel,

"A sassy, glossy, mischievous, little kitten."

That's what "The Bachelorette" Jenn Tran performed like on "Dancing with the Stars" Tuesday — at least, according to judge Bruno Tonioli. And, that was despite technical difficulties with the music, which Tran handled just about as purrrfectly as possible.

But, would all of that be enough for Tran, a University of Wisconsin-Madison alum , and her pro partner, Sasha Farber, to survive this week's double elimination?

The theme for Week 2 was "Oscars Night," which meant the duos would be dancing to songs from Oscar-nominated films.

"I watched the Oscars all the time, especially as a kid," Tran told Farber on the show.

Farber revealed they'd be dancing to “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)” by Fergie, Q-Tip and GoonRock from "The Great Gatsby."

"I wish 'The Great Gatsby' was the way that I could live my life," Tran said. "That era of the '20s is all about getting wild and being free and that's exactly what I want to channel."

Tran — in a fuchsia bedazzled top, flowy skirt and long gloves — and Farber — in a matching tail tux with a bowtie — performed a Tango.

"Jenn Tran, you are such a surprise!" judge Carrie Ann Inaba said. "There's so much good happening here. You're bubbly, you've got the stature — you pulled it down into the Tango. Although, that was a fast tango, my friend."

Inaba asked if something was going on with the music during the dance.

Despite the music not being loud enough, Farber said, Tran "crushed it." Host Alfonso Ribeiro added that he could hear the music in his ear, but not on the dance floor. Inaba commended the pair for how they handled the snafu.

Later, Farber explained that all he and Tran could hear at the beginning of the dance was the "click track," but Tran managed to stay "in time until the music came on."

"Jenn, you are a natural performer, you own that stage fantastically," judge Derek Hough said.

While he critiqued some of her arm positions and placements, he applauded her cartwheel.

"I didn't know I could do that, not gonna lie," Tran said.

"I think tonight you danced like a sassy, glossy, mischievous, little kitten," Tonioli told Tran. "You mean business. They're right, something happened. But, don't take away of what you have achieved. Because the parts that were good, they were brilliant."

Tran and Farber received a score of 19 out of 30, with a six from Inaba, a six from Derek and a seven from Tonioli. That's the same total they received last week on premiere night , giving them a combined total of 38/60.
