Wisconsin fall colors update: Some northern spots at peak color, others close behind

Several northern Wisconsin locations are reporting peak fall color conditions as of Oct. 10, according to the Fall Color Report posted by Travel Wisconsin.

Observers from Boulder Junction in Vilas County, Mercer in Iron County and Forest County all report peak color right now.

Some of their northern Wisconsin neighbors are close behind: Land O' Lakes, Manitowish Waters, Marinette County-North, Minocqua, Phillips/southern Price County and Rhinelander Area all report 90% color. Langlade County and Three Lakes Area report 85%; Ashland and Bayfield are at 80%.

In northeast Wisconsin, Door County and Green Bay observers both report 35% color change.

Clark County and Wausau lead the central tier of Wisconsin reporters with 55% color change, with both forecasting the third week of October for peak color. Other notables in the central tier: Manitowoc and Oshkosh, 50%; Fond du Lac, 40%; Appleton and Marshfield, 30%; Stevens Point Area, 20%.

Across the southern band of Wisconsin, Crawford County leads with 60% color change. Black River Falls and Kickapoo Valley Reserve are at 40%, with Wisconsin Dells at 35% and Baraboo Area at 30%.

Leaf color change has even entered the chat in southeastern and south central Wisconsin. Oconomowoc reports 20%; Madison, Washington County and West Allis, 15%; Oak Creek and Ozaukee County, 10%; Milwaukee and Waukesha, 5%.

Yoopers and people planning a visit to Michigan's Upper Peninsula can get fall color updates at michigan.org/fallcolormap . As of Oct. 10, most of the UP was at 80% to 100% color change, with some areas lingering in the 40% to 60% range.
