These new businesses are opening on the North Shore in Port Washington and Grafton

Indian takeout and groceries. Chipotle. And a new bar and restaurant.

Several new businesses have opened or are set to open in the northern suburbs of Milwaukee during the coming months. Other projected openings have been delayed. Here's what to know about a few of them:

Lucky Devils to open in Port Washington's former Sundance bar building

The owner of The Bay Restaurant in Whitefish Bay and Big Ed’s Smoke Pit in Belgium is launching a new bar and restaurant in Port Washington called Lucky Devils.

Owner James McMahon said the new bar is slated to open in mid-October and will be located at 551 N. Wisconsin St., in the former Sundance building, which operated from the 1970s until 2016, according to a July 18 Plan Commission meeting where conditional use for the space as a bar and restaurant was approved.

The 125-year-old building has been vacant since 2016.

In addition to drinks, the bar will serve some menu favorites from The Bay and BBQ selections from the Smoke Pit, including appetizers, sandwiches and salads, McMahon said at the July 18 meeting .

“We’re excited to be part of the vibrant community already here," he told commissioners.

McMahon's proposal was submitted under MKE Mustache Properties LLC, an homage to several mustache-growing competitions and gigs he has participated in, winning numerous awards across the country, according to his social media and previous reporting on his endeavors .

Given Lucky Devils' proximity to nearby houses, McMahon said he planned to mitigate noise with sound dampening panels inside the restaurant.

Anticipated hours of operation are 11 a.m. to midnight on Tuesday and Wednesday; 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. from Thursday to Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday. It is closed on Mondays.

After 8 p.m., the restaurant's kitchen will mostly close and offer a modified menu. The patio will close at 10 p.m.

Indian takeout and grocery store is opening in Port Washington

Aathira Foods, an Indian food market selling groceries and takeout, is still undergoing a remodel, but is projected to open in Port Washington during late September or October, the owners, Rajeswari Thavasi and Thavasi Renga Thavasi, said.

They were born and raised in India and have detailed knowledge of Indian culture and cuisine, according to a staff memo included in the Community Development Authority’s Aug. 19 agenda packet . The pair moved to Grafton in 2013 and have since worked at a private Biotech company in Saukville.

Currently, no Asian Indian grocery stores are in Ozaukee or Sheboygan counties, per the memo.

The storefront will be located on the city's south side at 1590 Harris Drive in place of the former BMO Harris Bank building, according to the owners’ application submitted for the plan commission’s July 18 meeting .

The site has been vacant for almost seven years, Director of Planning and Development Robert Harris said at the commission meeting to approve site plans and conditional use for the space.

“This takeout kitchen is a starting point,” Thavasi said to the commission. If things go well, he said, the owners have their sights set on building a larger restaurant space into another vacant unit in the building, which they purchased, along with vacant land next to the site.

The business will be supported by a $25,000 microloan to help with the start-up costs through Port Washington’s revolving loan fund program. The loan was approved at the Community Development Authority’s Aug. 19 meeting.

Hours of operation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, with weekend hours from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., according to the application.

In case you missed it: Chipotle is now open in Grafton

In case you missed it, the fast-casual chain Chipotle Mexican Grill, which specializes in bowls, tacos and burritos made to order, opened its first location in Grafton on July 23.

The new Chipotle is located at 1620 Port Washington Road on the west side of the Meijer shopping center.

The restaurant features a “Chipotlane,” a drive-thru pick-up lane that allows guests to conveniently pick up digital orders, according to a July 18 release.

Chipotle is open every day from 10:45 a.m. to 10 p.m.
