Tragedy Strikes: Beloved Mom Of 6, LaShanda Shumpert, Fatally Shot At Her Doorstep

LaShanda Shumpert, a beloved mother of six and grandmother to 18 children, tragically lost her life in a senseless shooting at her home during the early hours of Tuesday, June 25, 2024.

The incident unfolded in a Milwaukee neighborhood where Shumpert, 47, was reportedly speaking on the phone with her daughter when she was shot dead at her front door.

According to reports, some of her grandchildren were inside the residence at the time of the shooting and were unharmed.

Shumpert’s grief-stricken mother, Maeleen Dilworth-Jordan, recounted the harrowing moment she received the distressing call from her granddaughter.

“My granddaughter called me at 3:00 this morning, screaming and all. And I could understand what she was saying. … ‘Somebody shot my mom,’” she told WISN 12 News.

Details surrounding the shooting are still unclear as detectives launch an investigation into the incident. Dilworth-Jordan described the events leading up to her daughter’s death, stating:

“To my knowledge, she was on the porch. Somebody knocked at the door. I think she opened the door and got shot. And we have no idea. You know, she’s a mom. She’s a grandmother. She doesn’t go nowhere, she doesn’t bother anybody. So we don’t know.”

Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 3:30 a.m. and attempted to save Shumpert’s life, but were unsuccessful.

Waymon Shumpert, the victim’s father, remembered his daughter fondly. He recalls her vibrant personality.

“Oh, she was fun,” he shared with the TV station. “She could sing. She was a fun daughter. She was my oldest baby. She was really fun.”

Milwaukee police are actively seeking information about the perpetrator responsible for this heinous act.
