MILWAUKEE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — One day after the attempt on former President Donald Trump’s life, organizers and security teams are continuing their work at Milwaukee’s FiServe Forum to ensure that this week’s Republican National Convention gets underway smoothly and safely.

In many ways, the final preparations taking place inside FiServe Forum were proceeding as normal. The arena’s floor was still mostly empty as delegates continued to arrive and get settled. Organizers worked with broadcast media organizations to make sure their wireless microphones, wifi data systems and walkie talkies don't conflict with one another. Vocalists rehearsed their renditions of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Security was tight, but frankly, that would have been the case regardless. Conventions routinely have tight perimeters, even the day before the formal proceedings start. If anything, the biggest difference was that the Secret Service was not allowing any leeway for folks who didn’t have all of the proper credentials — of which there are several.

CBS’ Linda Kenyon reported on Sunday that Republican National Committee Chairperson Michael Whatley said the RNC is “very comfortable” with the security situation in Milwaukee.

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers said his staff was “in contact with those coordinating security planning for the RNC.”

In a statement posted to social media, Trump said he would arrive in Milwaukee, as scheduled, on Sunday afternoon.
