Former President Donald Trump has announced he's heading to Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention, despite the recent attempt on his life at a Pennsylvania rally.

On Truth Social, Trump declared : "Based on yesterday's terrible events, I was going to delay my trip to Wisconsin, and The Republican National Convention, by two days, but have just decided that I cannot allow a 'shooter,' or potential assassin, to force change to scheduling, or anything else."

He continued, "Therefore, I will be leaving for Milwaukee, as scheduled, at 3:30 P.M. TODAY. Thank you! DJT."

Trump confirmed his attendance at the convention, following a close call with death at his Butler, Pennsylvania rally on Saturday.

A would-be killer, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks from near Pittsburgh , was shot dead by the Secret Service at the event. Tragically, one bystander was killed and two more are in critical condition, reports the Express US .

The chaos erupted while Trump was presenting border statistics, with five shots disrupting the rally. Trump, who was seen clutching his ear before ducking, was shielded by agents and emerged with a blood-stained face, defiantly fist-pumping to the crowd's cheers.

Post-incident, Trump was whisked away and received medical attention in Pennsylvania.

The former US president was later whisked away to New Jersey , reaching Newark Liberty International Airport slightly past midnight.

Trump quickly released a surprising statement on his Truth Social platform after leaving the rally. He stated that he was "shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear."

There is yet to be an official confirmation from law enforcement agencies regarding Trump's claim of being struck by a bullet.

The FBI, tasked with leading the investigation, has announced collaborations with the Secret Service and other state and local law enforcement agencies. Mike Johnson, the Republican U.S. House Speaker, also confirmed that the House will launch a comprehensive investigation into the attack during Trump's campaign rally.

President Joe Biden delivered a speech from the White House on Sunday afternoon, announcing that he had called for an independent assessment of the security measures in place at the rally.

Additionally, Biden disclosed his order for the U. S. Secret Service to investigate all safety measures that pertain to the Republican National Convention which takes off in Milwaukee come Monday.

In his call for restraint, Biden cautioned Americans against making hasty assumptions concerning the shooter's motives as authorities swiftly probe the event.

"Unity is the most elusive goal of all," he pointed out. Biden proceeded to urge the masses to consciously work towards unity.
