    News of the assassination attempt on former President Trump dominated headlines since news broke Saturday evening, and that won't stop Monday morning.

    Why it matters: The 2024 RNC begins today hundreds of miles away in Milwaukee, and the country faces a new level of challenges and fears.


    Zoom in: Locally, Virginia politicians from both sides of the aisle condemned the assassination attempt and urged unity against political violence.

    • "Suzanne and I are praying for President Trump, praying for his family, and praying for America," Gov. Youngkin, who's scheduled to lead Virginia's delegation at the convention in Milwaukee, posted on X Saturday .
