Protesters will still march at the Republican National Convention on Monday after the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump .

“For the past two years all across this country, we pulled together a broad grouping of community organizations, unions, students, immigrant rights, LGBTQ, anti-war groups, and many others,” Omar Flores, co-chairman of the Coalition to March on the RNC 2024, said at a press conference on Sunday. “We have not had safety issues at any of our several marches or events, and we look forward to our family-friendly march.”

Flores said the coalition had reaffirmed an agreement with the city of Milwaukee on its protest route after a monthslong fight with the city over where it could demonstrate.

Organizers expect between 5,000 and 10,000 people to attend the march “within sight and sound” of the Fiserv Forum, where the convention is being held.

A member of the city attorney’s office will observe the march to “make sure things go without a hitch,” according to the coalition.

More than 50,000 people are expected to attend the convention, where Trump will become the Republican Party’s presidential nominee.

The U.S. Secret Service said it has reviewed and strengthened security plans at the convention after Trump was shot at a Pennsylvania rally on Saturday.

“We take this matter very, very seriously. We take public safety very, very seriously," Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson said on Sunday. “And I have been so pleased to work in collaboration not just with the United States Secret Service but also with local law enforcement and public safety on the ground here.”

When asked if the coalition condemns the shooting, Flores said that “the shooting has nothing to do with us,” the Wisconsin Examiner reported .
