(The Center Square) – Former President Donald Trump said that he rewrote his upcoming speech in its entirety for the 2024 Republican National Convention, The Washington Examiner reported .

This decision from Trump to change the themes of his speech came after the attempted assassination on Saturday. Trump was injured but survived. That rally was the last scheduled before his departure to the RNC.

Trump told The Washington Examiner in an interview that his newly rewritten speech for the RNC will now focus “national unity” as well as “drawing the country together.”

“This is a chance to bring the whole country, even the whole world, together," Trump said. "The speech will be a lot different, a lot different than it would’ve been two days ago."

Trump’s announcement of changing his prepared speech comes ahead of the 2024 RNC, which begins on Monday. This major political convention is set to take place this week from Monday to Thursday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with the leading elected Republicans, conservative voices and grassrooots and established organizations on the right.

The RNC takes place a little over a month ahead of another major political convention, the Democratic National Convention. The DNC is scheduled to take place from Monday Aug. 19 to Thursday Aug. 22.

Trump is set to be in the spotlight of the convention as he is the presumptive 2024 presidential candidate for the Republican Party.

Many were speculating over the weekend about whether or not Trump would still plan to attend the RNC after the violent events of the assassination attempt against him last Saturday.

Despite the speculation over his making an appearance at the RNC or not, Trump recently confirmed that he would still be attending the convention regardless of the horrific events from Saturday, as The Center Square previously reported .

“President Trump will continue to share his vision to Make America Great Again,” the Republican National Committee and Trump campaign said in their statement from Saturday.

As The Center Square previously reported , Trump has previously said that he is planning to announce his pick for who is going to run alongside him as candidate for vice president sometime during the RNC, likely on Monday.

President Joe Biden recently addressed the country in a statement from the Oval Office on Sunday where he called for an end to political violence after the assassination attempt on Trump, as The Center Square previously reported .

Biden also referenced the RNC in his address to the nation, saying that he anticipated the Republican Party would "criticize" his record.

"The Republican convention will start tomorrow," Biden said in his address. "I have no doubt they’ll criticize my record and offer their own vision for this country. I’ll be traveling this week, making the case for our record and the vision — my vision of the country — our vision."

"We debate and disagree," Biden added.

Trump also took to posting on his social media platform, TruthSocial, on Sunday to share a similar call for unity.

“UNITE AMERICA!” Trump said in his Truth Social post.
