GOP convention rock band energizes crowd and social media and drowns out television coverage

The 2024 Republican National Convention crowd of delegates and politicians were treated to an energizing rock concert led by the Nashville -based country music rock band Sixwire, which played popular radio tunes in between speakers on the first day of the convention.

The band played a rocking setlist that included "I Want You to Want Me” by Cheap Trick, "Takin‘ It to the Streets” by the Doobie Brothers, "We‘re an American Band” by Don Brewer, “Life Is a Highway” by Tom Cochrane, and “Learn To Fly” by the Foo Fighters.

The excitement of the crowd in Milwaukee was overflowing as they swayed to the music of the band and showed their support for former President Donald Trump just days after an assassination attempt on his life at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

The band burst into a jubilant performance of "Celebration" by Kool & The Gang when the delegates nominated the former president and then played a country song as Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) entered the convention.

The musicians also jumped in with a rock song when House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) experienced a teleprompter malfunction. The band filled time for reportedly 20 minutes while the teleprompter was being fixed.

As Fox News covered the convention, its reporters and hosts commented on the rock concert's commanding presence.

"I’m going to try not to yell. It’s really hard to hear so I will try to keep my voice down," Fox News reporter Aishah Hasnie said to anchor Neil Cavuto from the floor of the convention as the band played.

When Fox News anchor Bret Baier closed his panel, he remarked about the great music from the band, despite its volume.

"All right, panel. Thanks. Thanks for getting through the band," Baier said. "Good tunes but tough to hear sometimes."

Hasnie also reported that there was so much energy at the convention that it was "electrifying."

Several social media viewers also commented how they loved the band's energy.

"I'm impressed. I have to say the vibes are great right now as I'm checking in with the Republican National Convention," a social media user said .

Another person asked , "WHO are the members of band at #RNCConvention? Watching on C-Span so I get to hear uninterrupted songs. Guitar Player has great chops. Band KICKS A**."

"Politics totally aside, the band that is playing at the Convention is incredible. I Want You to Want Me, Taking It to the Streets, Roll with the Changes. What a setlist. Now if the pundits would stop talking & let me enjoy the music," another social media praised the band.

"Dad Band at the #RNC!! Yea!" another person joked about the band.

The Washington Examiner's Tim Carney added , "I really appreciate that the RNC soundtrack is a cover band playing Gen X music. This is our consolation for the fact that none of us will ever be president."
