Watch pastor give Trump impression at RNC: 'You're going to be so blessed'

Before a Wisconsin pastor gave a benediction at the Republican National Convention Monday night in Milwaukee, he delivered one heck of a Donald Trump impression — in front of the former president himself.

"It's a great pleasure to be here," Rev. James A. Roemke of Kenosha's Messiah Lutheran Church addressed the crowd from Fiserv Forum's stage. "A great pleasure to see President Donald Trump safe."

The audience clapped as a touched Trump appeared to say "thank you."

Monday at the RNC in Milwaukee marked Trump's first public appearance since an assassination attempt was made on the former president Saturday at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when a bullet grazed his ear.

"If I may before the benediction, give you this promise," Roemke continued.

Then, the pastor switched into a Trump-sounding voice complete with Trump-like hand gestures and facial expressions.

"You're going to be so blessed," Roemke said in his Trump impression. "You're going to be tired of being blessed. I guarantee it ... Believe me."

Was Trump amused? He flashed a big smile and applauded as the crowd cheered.

Who is Rev. James A. Roemke?

According to the Messiah Lutheran Church website, Roemke was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana .

He attended Concordia Seminary in St. Louis and served his vicarage at St. John Lutheran in Hamilton, Texas, his bio says.

He first served at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Middleville, Michigan and taught religion classes at West Michigan Lutheran High School. He became pastor at Messiah Lutheran Church in 2013.

Roemke is married to his wife Lesa, whom he met at Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne, and has two daughters.

    What's happening at the RNC?

The 2024 Republican National Convention began Monday with Trump and Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, being formally selected as the GOP's 2024 presidential and vice presidential nominees.

Trump's announcement of Vance as his running mate Monday afternoon ended months of speculation as to who Trump's running mate would be. Vance was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2022 after defeating former Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan for an open seat in Ohio.

The RNC continues Tuesday through Thursday, when Trump is expected to speak. See the full schedule and full list of speakers .
