After the Republican National Convention kicked off Monday in Milwaukee, former President Donald Trump made his first public appearance since surviving an assassination attempt last weekend, firing up the crowd of convention attendees.

Trump viewed some convention speeches from the audience with his ear bandaged . The Republican frontrunner used the first day of the RNC to announce his pick for vice president, Ohio Sen. JD Vance. He also appeared in a video urging attendees to get out the vote by using mail in ballots. He is not expected to speak at the convention until it wraps up on Thursday.

Trump's speech was originally supposed to take a fiery tone, similar to the ones delivered at his campaign rallies. After Saturday's assassination attempt, he told the Washington Examiner that he will focus on national unity, stating it's a “chance to bring the whole country, even the whole world, together."

Political leaders on both sides of the aisle have called for unity after Saturday's events, including President Joe Biden, who addressed the nation from the Oval Office Sunday evening, calling on Americans to "cool it down."

When will Trump give his convention speech?

Trump will deliver his keynote address on Thursday evening to wrap up the convention as delegates officially cast their votes to nominate him as the party's presidential candidate.
