COLUMBUS, Ga. ( WRBL ) — Former President Donald Trump is expected to make it official tonight and accept the Republican Party’s nomination at the top of the 2024 presidential ticket.

That will happen at the National Convention in Milwaukee. And it comes just five days after Trump survived an assassination attempt.

Georgia 3 rd Congressional District Republican Congressional candidate Brian Jack is extremely close to former President Trump. As the national convention’s co-chairman of the Rules Committee, Jack has spent considerable time with Trump in Milwaukee this week.

Jack — more so than anyone from the West Georgia area — has keen insight into how the assassination attempt impacted Trump — and what Trump might say from the podium tonight.

“I think you’re going to see a message of unity,” Jack said. “And I think, too, I think he’s going to address what we’ve seen over the last three and a half years — the campaign by some on the left to truly demonize, if not dehumanize, President Trump’s supporters.  I think he’s going to address and note that that’s what led to the violence  on Thursday and at the same time call for for us to come together as a country and move forward as a country and return to what we accomplished over those four years in the White House.”

Jack said the assassination attempt has impacted the former president,

“Yeah, I think that he … I certainly think that he understands the gravity,” Jack said. “And I can tell that he appreciates God’s hand  this. And I know he’s made some public comments to that. At the same time to I think that he’s very motivated. I think he, as I feel, believes that it’s imperative that we elect him and elect a Republican majority going forward.”
