Trump Pivots Away from Shooting By Railing Against Dem ‘Witch Hunts,’ Lauds ‘Highly Respected’ Judge Cannon for Tossing Docs Case

Moments after addressing, for the first time, the assassination attempt against him, former President Donald Trump pivoted to more familiar territory during the final night of the Republican National Convention.

Speaking to the crowd at the FiServ Forum in Milwaukee on Thursday night, the former president railed against what he called the “partisan witch hunts” against him.

“The Democrat Party should immediately stop weaponizing the justice system and labeling their political opponents as an enemy of democracy,” Trump said. “Especially since that is not true. In fact, I am the one saving democracy for the people of our country.”

Trump went on to praise Judge Aileen Cannon — who threw out the classified documents case against him on Monday in a highly controversial ruling denounced by legal analysts far and wide.

“A highly-respected federal judge in Florida, Aileen Cannon, finding that the prosecutor and the fake documents case against me were totally unconstitutional, and the entire case was thrown out of court,” Trump said.

Trump, despite the dismissal in the classified documents case, was convicted on 34 felony counts in New York earlier this year and still faces charges in Georgia and federal charges in Washington. Without directly mentioning the pending cases against him, he called on Democrats to end “partisan witch hunts.”

“If Democrats want to unify our country, they should drop these partisan witch hunts, which I have been going through for approximately eight years,” Trump said. “And they should do that without delay and allow an election to proceed that is worthy of our people.”
