‘The Chart That Saved My Life’: Trump Praises Prop He Turned His Head Toward, Avoiding Assassin’s Killshot

Former President Donald Trump unveiled a chart Thursday in Milwaukee that he credited with saving his life when a would-be assassin’s bullet tore through his right ear and not his skull last week while he was speaking in Pennsylvania.

At a rally on Saturday, Trump referenced an immigration chart being displayed when he turned his head to the right just as the FBI said Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire – striking Trump in the ear, wounding two of his followers, and killing another one.

Trump never finished his comments about the chart last Saturday but as he was accepting his party’s nomination Thursday night in Wisconsin at the Republican National Convention, he unveiled it once more while adorning a bandage on his ear.

“We want people to come into our country, but they have to come into our country legally – legally,” Trump said when discussing an influx of immigrants who have entered across the country’s southern border in recent years.

Trump then referenced a chart containing immigration numbers – the same chart he was looking at in Butler when a bullet struck his ear.

“But you can see on the chart that saved my life – that was the chart that saved my life – I said, ‘Look, I’m so proud of it. I think it’s one of the greatest. It was done by the Border Patrol, one of the greatest charts I’ve ever seen. It showed everything just like that,” Trump said.

“You know, that chart oh, there it is. That’s pretty good – wow,” he said as the chart was displayed before the RNC crowd and viewers at home.

The chart showed the number of border crossings when he left office compared to where they have been in recent years under the leadership of President Joe Biden .

“The last time I put up that chart, I never really got to look at it, but without that chart, I would not be here today,” Trump said. “Never got to look at it. Never got to look at it. I never got to see it that day.”
