Remember when Red Bull brought its famous Flugtag to Milwaukee ? In August, the energy drinks empire is planning to host another one of its events here: Red Bull Wake The City.

This will be the first time Wake The City — a doubles wakeboarding competition that combines athleticism and entertainment — is being put on in the U.S., according to the company .

"Top professional wakeboarders will perform highly technical tricks across five unique features, competing in teams of two to impress judges with their style, creativity and execution," a news release said.

What are these unique features, you ask? Elements or obstacles within the wakeboarding course designed to challenge the athletes and showcase their skills (more on that later).

The winning duo will wake, err walk, away with the title of Red Bull Wake The City Champion.

Here's what to know, including when and where the event will be held, how many wakeboarders are set to compete and more:

When is Red Bull Wake The City happening in 2024?

    Aug. 31.

The event's schedule is coming soon, Wake The City's website said.

Where is Red Bull Wake The City 2024 happening?

The wakeboarding competition will take place on the Lakeshore State Park Inlet, adjacent to the Henry Maier Festival Park grounds, 200 N. Harbor Drive.

How many people and who will be competing in Red Bull Wake The City 2024?

More than 30 of the world’s top professional wakeboarders will compete in Wake The City, according to a news release.

That includes world champion Meagan Ethell — who grew up in our neighbor to the south, Illinois — and Massi Piffaretti , the first Italian world champion wakeboarder, per the athletes' Red Bull bios.

“I am so excited to compete at the first U.S. Red Bull Wake The City event right where it all started for me,” Ethell said in a news release. “Growing up in the suburbs just outside of Chicago, Illinois, I can tell you there’s nothing better than a summer in the Midwest on the water. I can't wait to see you all there!"

There's a last chance qualifier for Wake The City, according to a flyer on the event's website. More info on that can be found here .

Who will be the judges, hosts for Red Bull Wake The City 2024?

According to a news release, judges will include Maurizio Marassi, an athlete on the Italian national cable wakeboard team and photographer; Tom Fooshee, a professional wakeboarder and producer; and Oli Derome, a former professional wakeboarder from Canada.

Hosts will include Parks Bonifay, a longtime Red Bull wakeboarding athlete; Alexa Score, a pro wakeboarder, TV host and cancer survivor; Danny Amir, aka Dano The Mano, a pro towed watersports announcer and the host of "The Golden Mic Podcast."

    More on those unique features

The unique features aforementioned are a combination of custom-designed pipes, kickers and rails strategically placed to test the rider’s creativity and style as they push the limits of what can be achieved on a wakeboard, according to Red Bull.

Does Red Bull Wake The City cost anything to attend?

Nope! Wake The City is free to attend and open to the public, per the event's website.

Where was Red Bull Wake The City held previously?

Prior to the upcoming Milwaukee event, Wake The City had solely been held in Milan, Italy, in 2021, 2022 and 2023, according to Red Bull.

Why was Milwaukee chosen as the place for Red Bull Wake The City's U.S. debut?

One of the reasons Milwaukee was chosen as the place for the event's U.S. debut? Its iconic waterfront venue, Henry Maier Festival Park, according to Red Bull.

The grounds are home to Summerfest , one of America's largest and longest-running music festivals, as well as several major cultural festivals.

The appeal of Midwest summers — with their vibrant atmosphere and ideal conditions for water sports — also factored into the decision, Red Bull said. Plus, several pro wakeboarders have ties to the Midwest.
