Milwaukee Wine Academy will host Spanish-language wine tasting class in Walker's Point

The Milwaukee Wine Academy is hosting its first Spanish-language wine tasting class from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Arts @ Large , 1100 S. 5th St.

The class, "Vinos Del Cono Sur," will highlight wine culture from Argentina, Chile and Uruguay. The region, known as the Southern Cone, has produced wine since the 16th century, when the Spanish and Portuguese arrived on the continent, according to a news release.

Northwestern University Spanish professor and Milwaukee Wine Academy co-founder Jeffery Coleman will lead the class.

Guests can taste six wines from the Southern Cone. The class is open to anyone, including wine-tasting beginners.

For now, this is the only class of its kind — the Wine Academy hopes to hold more Spanish-language classes in the future.

"At Milwaukee Wine Academy, our mission is to make wine accessible to diverse communities, including people of color, women and the LGBTQ+ community," Milwaukee Wine Academy co-founder Tim Cole wrote in an email. "Our upcoming Spanish-language wine tasting class perfectly embodies this mission. It's designed to increase engagement by offering a welcoming, fun environment where participants can learn in their native language."
