Wisconsin's only Black-owned full-scale grocery store will celebrate it's 2nd anniversary with a $10,000 grocery giveback to show customer appreciation.

The celebration is Saturday, July 27 at Sherman Park Grocery Store, 4315 W. Fond du Lac Ave. The store opened in July 2022 to provide residents with affordable healthy foods to address one of 13 food deserts in Milwaukee .

"In the meetups we found there hadn't been a full-scale grocery in this neighborhood in 18 years," said owner Maurice "Moe" Wince.

Development of the grocery store began when Parklawn Assembly Church of God members used the 2016 civil unrest in Sherman Park to spark conversation on food access, healthcare and job stability .

The store received support from Gov. Tony Evers, Milwaukee Commissioner of City Development Lafayette Crump, and Ken Little, the director of the Wisconsin Small Business Development Center , among others.

The anniversary party will include a $25 grocery gift card giveaway, food and more from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The gift cards do come with some stipulations. They must be used at Sherman Park Grocery and spent on fruits, vegetables and other healthy options.

WJMR Jammin' 98.3 radio host, Earl Stokes will be present too.

You must pre-register for the event to receive a gift card or visit the store.
