According to the Milwaukee Police Department, multiple officers attempted to conduct a felony stop at North 17th and West Vilet Street around 2:23 p.m. on Thursday, June 20. The vehicle was wanted in connection to an attempted armed robbery carjacking that occurred in the 500 Block of North Broadway. The Milwaukee Police Department said the vehicle was also wanted in connection to another armed robbery carjacking that took place in the 500 Block of North Jefferson Street earlier that day.

The six teens inside the vehicle, including a pregnant young woman, led police on a chase that ended when the driver of the vehicle switched lanes and ended up driving into a construction zone on I-43 near West Vienna Avenue. After pinning the teens between a cement truck and several patrol cars, multiple officers exited their vehicles with guns drawn, demanding the teens get out of the car.

Among those injured in the shooting were the driver, a 17-year-old boy named Calveyon Adonte Jeans , and his 6-month pregnant girlfriend, an 18-year-old woman named Ashley Zakia Patterson . Both teens accused of carjacking were rushed to the hospital in serious condition and their unborn baby was pronounced dead after the Milwaukee Police-involved shooting. At the time, police said Jeans had serious injuries and Patterson faced life-threatening injuries.
