Flood Warning in Effect Until 1:30 PM Monday
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A flood warning is in effect until 1:30 this (Monday) afternoon. The National Weather Service says small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected for a portion of central Virginia including Albemarle County and Charlottesville. Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. At 729 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is already occurring in the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible in the warned area.
Marking CHS's 50th anniversary
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Charlottesville High School is turning 50 this year, and the community is invited to attend events commemorating the anniversary. CHS opened its doors on Sept. 16, 1974 when it replaced Lane High School as the high school within the city. The first graduating class was the class of 1975.
Shirlington Circle bridge closes again for a week of construction
For the second time this month, the Shirlington Circle south rotary bridge over I-395 has closed for construction. The bridge — which connects southbound lanes from I-395 and Shirlington Road to North Quaker Lane at Exit 6 — is set to remain closed until just before midnight this coming Sunday, July 28.

Charlottesville Tomorrow has been producing a voter guide since its founding in 2005. Last year, we expanded to cover 58 local and state races in Charlottesville and 12 central Virginian counties. Wintergreen Fire Takes Delivery Of New Fire Engine
It was a long time coming but Wintergreen Fire & Rescue (WF&R) took delivery of their newest fire engine just a few weeks ago. “Engine 61 is a Pierce Enforcer which was ordered approximately three years ago. It’s your standard structural engine. We did add a light tower, which is something we have never had before,” WF&R Chief Curtis Sheets tells us.
