PIKETON, Ohio (AP) — A recent Reuters investigation into the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) has sparked local outcry, particularly concerning the former Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Piketon. The ATSDR, established more than four decades ago to assess health risks from some of the nation’s most toxic sites, is now under scrutiny for allegedly protecting polluters and providing misleading reports.

Otway woman charged with numerous drug offenses, including meth
BEAUFORT — Deputies with the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office arrested Angela Lynn Simmons, 50, of Otway on Aug. 9 after she was charged with numerous drug offenses. The arrest was pursuant to a month-long investigation led by detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division resulting from an apparent overdose death that occurred on June 30. Carteret County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit Detectives aided in this investigation.
