Ohio State Route 7 reopen after rockfall

UPDATE : ODOT officials confirm that both directions of State Route 7 in Jefferson County have been reopened for travel.

UPDATE : As of 2:15 Friday afternoon, ODOT officials say crews have swept the roadway and continue to set the portable concrete barrier wall.

The road will need to be swept again after the concrete barrier wall is set.

The goal is to have the road reopened in both directions by this afternoon.

7News will update you once the road reopens.

UPDATE: As of 10pm Thursday evening, ODOT officials have confirmed that both directions of State Route 7 in Jefferson County have been cleared of debris, but there is more work to be done before the roadway can be safely opened.

MINGO JUNCTION, OH ( WTRF ) State Route 7 in Ohio is closed in both directions in Mingo Junction due to a significant rockfall on the roadway.

The road is expected to remain closed into the evening hours all the way until the morning.

No one is reported injured at this time.

Crews say they will be working around the clock to remove the rock and restore the work zone. Additionally, pavement repairs that may be needed will be completed prior to reopening the road.

This location is the site of an ongoing rockfall remediation project in this area. Blasting is utilized weekly for the purposes of excavation. Unfortunately, today’s blasting caused more material to fall than anticipated, according to officials.

The estimated completion date for the project is June 30, 2025.

Northbound traffic is being diverted to State Route 151 west to U.S. 22 east to return to State Route 7 north.

Southbound traffic is being diverted via U.S 22 west to State Route 151 east to return to State Route 7 south.
