MINGO JUNCTION, OH ( WTRF ) – State Route 7 in Ohio was closed in both directions in Mingo Junction due to a significant rockfall on the roadway Thursday afternoon.

The road has since been cleared in both directions but the Ohio Department of Transportation says there is more work to be done before they can safely reopen the roadway.

Crews say they will be working around the clock to remove the rock and restore the work zone. Additionally, pavement repairs that may be needed will be completed prior to reopening the road.

This location is the site of an ongoing rockfall remediation project in this area. Blasting is utilized weekly for the purposes of excavation. Unfortunately, today’s blasting caused more material to fall than anticipated, according to officials

Northbound traffic is being diverted from state Route 151 west to U.S. 22 east to return to state Route 7 north.

Southbound traffic is being diverted via U.S 22 west to state Route 151 east to return to state Route 7 south.
