Mingo Messenger photo by Paul Adkins</figcaption></figure>NEWTOWN – The Mingo Central High School softball team hung tough with River View, but ended up falling 8-5 to the Raiders on Thursday, April 26 at the MCHS softball field atop Miner Mountain.It was the regular season finale for Mingo Central and Senior Night.Mingo Central (7-11) plated four runs in the bottom of the third and led 5-1, but the Raiders were able to score three in the fourth, two in the sixth and an insurance run in the top of the seventh.Mingo senior center fielder Annie White had a pair of singles in the loss. Catcher Mack Hammond had a double and a single. Second baseman Kaylin Joplin also had two hits, both singles.Hailey Williams and pitcher Aubrey Plummer each had a double, while third baseman Gianna Akers hammered out a triple.Lilly Perkins had three hits, including a pair of doubles, to lead the Raiders. Hannah Honosky and Mileigh Goodman each had two hits.The Lady Miners were scheduled to open play in their Class AA sectional tourney at Wayne on Tuesday. Ranked teams Chapmanville and Logan are also in the field, along with Scott.GRUNDY SWEEPS LADY MINERS: The Grundy Golden Wave out of Virginia came to Miner Mountain on Wednesday, April 24 and swept the Mingo Central Lady Miners in a doubleheader.Grundy took Game One, 6-4, then routed the Lady Miners, 13-3, in the nightcap.Annie White and Kaylin Joplin each had two singles for MCHS in the opener, while Hailey Williams and freshman pitcher Ciara Brown each smacked out doubles.Mack Hammond and Gianna Akers each added a single for the Lady Miners.In Game Two, Mingo Central plated all three of its runs in the bottom of the second inning.White, Mingo's leadoff batter and pitcher, had a double. Hammond had two hits with a single and a double.Akers, Loraleigh Parker and Carolina Hinkle each had singles in the game.</div></body>
