    North Shore gymnasts shine at regionals

    This weekend the Level 4-10 North Shore gymnastics boys team headed to Des Moines for the Region 4 Men’s Championship Meet.

    Before the competition got underway, Dale Bullivant, the Mens Director at North Shore Gymnastics was inducted into the Region 4 Hall of Fame! He has served as State Chairman of Minnesota and the last 8 years served as Region Chairman. His duties included creating rules, routines, & policies for USA gymnastics, running camps, and region championships. He is stepping down after 20 years of service and was awarded this honor! He has played an integral role in the sport of Mens gymnastics and North Shore is proud to have him!

    As the meet itself got underway, the Level 5 team soared to take a 2nd place team award out of over 20 teams competing! They achieved this huge accomplishment with the help from the amazing boys on the team. In the 10 year old division, Hudson Arvizo (Maple Plain, 9) tied for 4th on Parallel bars, placed 4th on rings and all-around, also tied for 3rd in vault and 1st on pommel horse. In the 11 year old division, Cable Farley (Long Lake, 10) placed 5th on rings, tied for 4th on pommel horse, placed 3rd on both floor and all-around, 2nd on parallel bars and tied for 1st on his vault. Benjamin Hallett (Minnetrista, 12) finished in the top 10 for his pommel routine. North Shore also has not one but two All-around champions on the level 5 team. Maks Watts (Minnetrista, 9) was the 1st place champion on floor, vault and all-around, tied for 1st on pommel horse and parallel bars and was 2nd on rings and highbar! Additionally, Adam Labay (Medina, 12) had four 1st place finishes on pommel horse, rings, parallel bars and his all-around. Labay also had a 3rd place tie on vault. This team has dominated their level throughout the year!! Way to go boys!

    The level 7 boys are a smaller team of 4, but they put in some good routines and worked hard.

    In the 12-13 year division, Zachary Potter (Delalno, 12) had a few top 10 finishes on rings and vault. Alexander Bartz (Minnetrista, 12) finished in the top 10 for his all-around and parallel bars routines and a 4th place tie on floor and 2nd place tie on rings. In the 15 year old division, Kaidan Kochar (Watertown, 14) placed in the top 10 for his strong floor and high bar routines. Peter Davis (Minneapolis, 15) in the 16+ division had a top 10 finish on both the parallel and high bar, placed 5th on floor and tied for 3rd on rings. Potter, Bartz and Davis earned a place and will be competing the end of April in Arizona and the Mens’ Westerns Championships Ian Laughlin (Carver, 17) was the only Level 10 athlete for North Shore that was able to compete. Laughlin had a top 10 finish on parallel bars, vault, floor and rings. He had a 3rd place finish for all-around and was the Region 4 pommel horse champion with a 12.450! Laughlin has earned himself a ticket to the Mens’ Nationals Championship May 7th-12th in Daytona Beach, Florida.

    The level 9 boys were the last session on Saturday. The level 9 boys had some stiff competition but we had several top 10 finishes in their respective age categories. Owen Johnson (Delano, 14) on parallel bars, Oliver Berg (Mound, 14) on floor and Tobin Dykoski (Minnetrista, 13) on floor. Marek Dykoski (Minnetrista, 15) had a 4th place finish on floor and 3rd on high bar. Johnson, and both Marek & Tobin Dykoski will be also heading to Arizona to join the level 7s at the Mens’ Westerns Championships.

    Sunday morning was the last session of the meet and our boys, concluding with the Level 4s.In the 11 year old division, Sam Tschimperle (Minnetrista, 10) had a top 10 finish for his parallel bars, rings and all-around, also placing 5th on high bar. Bode Farley (Long Lake, 9) in the 9 year old division had a top 10 finish on high bar. Mate Toth (Orono, 8) in the 7-8 year old division had a top 10 finish for his rings, floor and all-around. Toth also placed 5th on parallel bars, tied for 4th on high bar and was in 2nd place on pommel horse.

    The competition season is over for many of the boys gymnasts, however the few that qualified for the next level will still have some hard work to put in at the gym. All of the gymnasts will be back in the gym and continue to strengthen and grow as we finish up one season and start to prepare for the next!

    North Shore Gymnastics Association, Orono, was founded in 1974 and is a 501c3 non-profit organization. It is the club’s purpose to acquaint children at all levels of physical ability, potential and growth with the sport of gymnastics in an atmosphere of safe, fun, positive learning and to help each child develop gymnastic skills, good sportsmanship, and discipline.
