Cooper’s Emmanuel Karmo grabbed headlines last week when he committed to play for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers football team.

The linebacker, who completed his junior season last fall, helped the Hawks to the Section 5AAAAA championship. Karmo played in 10 games where he collected 48 total tackles, one pick-six, 1118 punt return yards, six rushing touchdowns, 294 receiving yards and three touchdown receptions.

Karmo also received offers from the likes of East Carolina, Iowa, Iowa State, and Kansas. According to 247 Sports, Karmo was the top-ranked junior in Minnesota this year.

Karmo will not be the only Cooper connection headed for Gophers football. It was confirmed last week that Cooper-alum Jaxon Howard had accepted an offer to transfer from Louisiana State University to the University of Minnesota.

Howard, also a linebacker and edge rusher, played five games last season for LSU, earning two tackles from games against Grambling and Wisconsin. The former Hawk was the number one senior recruit in 2023 and was linked to the Gophers before committing his freshman season to LSU.
