What: ‘BluePrint: The Spring Student Fashion Show’

Students in the Minneapolis College’s Apparel Technologies program present this spring fashion show of their clothing designs as their capstone projects. See more than 75 designs from 18 graduating students on the runway.

What: Fashion show and popup shopping event at MartinPatrick3 When: May 9 Where: MartinPatrick3, 212 N. Third Ave., Minneapolis Sarah Edwards, CEO of Fashion Week Minnesota, will be celebrating the launch of her new capsule fashion brand with MartinPatrick3 by hosting a small runway show and popup shopping event. Edward’s new fashion and art collection was created with a focus on sustainability, utilizing local sewers and production methods and offering only a small-run collection.

Start of the Season

What: Governor’s Fishing Opener

Where: Lake City

An annual tradition since 1948, this event unofficially kicks off summer and highlights a region around Minnesota. Lake City is home to Lake Pepin and events will feature water skiing shows, a pontoon parade, and, of course, fishing.

Ballet Times Two

What: ‘Coppélia in Paris’ from the Twin Cities Ballet Company
When: May 11-12
Where: Ames Center, 12600 Nicollet Ave., Burnsville

Set in 1920s Paris, this family-friendly romantic comedy features a “ballet within a ballet” filled with mischief, jealousy, mistaken identity, humor and of course, love. The performances feature principal ballerina Natalie Rossi, who is retiring after this season.

Mother’s Day Market

Where: The Market at Malcolm Yards, 501 30th Ave. SE, Minneapolis

Amusement Park Opens

What: Valleyfair opening day
When: May 12
Where: Valleyfair, 1 Valley Fair Drive, Shakopee

Valleyfair Amusement Park, the 125-acre Twin Cities amusement park, opens for the season on May 12 with eight roller coasters, a seven-acre waterpark, and an expansive kids’ area.

What: ‘The Rink’

Set in a decaying family roller rink on the Eastern seaboard, this musical about a fraught-but-funny mother-daughter relationship features an all-high school cast and some incredible roller-skating pyrotechnics.

Kim Loo Sisters Musical

What: Blended 和 (Harmony) When: Through May 26 Where: History Theatre, 30 Tenth St. E., St. Paul Hometown librettist Jessica Huang has teamed up with composer Jacinth Greywoode in this production co-produced by History Theatre and Theater Mu to tell the story of the Kim Loo Sisters, four Chinese Polish American sisters who sung their way from Minneapolis to Broadway and overseas during the swing era.

Dinner and a Show

What: ‘Til Beth Do Us Part’
When: Wednesdays-Saturdays Through May 26
Where: DayTrippers Dinner Theatre at Plymouth Playhouse, 2705 Annapolis Lane N., Plymouth

This comic romp about marriage and relationships focuses on character Suzannah and her husband, Gibby, as Suzannah’s new assistant, Beth Bailey, has strong opinions on the couple’s household. Performances include lunch before the Wednesday and Thursday shows, and dinner on Fridays and Saturdays.

Craft Show

What: ‘Firsthand: Contemporary Craft in Context’
When: Through Aug. 3
Where: Goldstein Gallery, McNeal Hall, 1985 Buford Ave., St. Paul

The University of Minnesota’s Goldstein Gallery of Design, which is a research center in the U’s College of Design and the only design museum in the Upper Midwest, opens this new exhibit featuring more than 75 items showcasing leather shoes, woolen knitwear, thrown pottery, ceramic tiles, and youth-built boats.

Radiant Baby

What: ‘Keith Haring: Art is for Everybody’ exhibit
When: Now open
Where: Walker Art Center, 725 Vineland Place, Minneapolis

From his early years as a graffiti artist in the New York City subways to later career as public muralist and activist, Keith Haring’s playful, line-driven, brightly colored works are instantly recognizable. A major exhibit of the artist’s paintings, drawings, and sculptures opens at the Walker this weekend with its democratized message.
