The Breck boys tennis program will have a pair of singles players and a doubles team representing the school at the Class A state tennis tournament scheduled for June 6-7 at the Reed-Sweatt Tennis Center in Minneapolis.

Tennis sectionals continued last week as teams across the western metro took part in the Section 5A and Section 5AA individual tournaments from May 20 to May 23.

    5A

Breck will send both singles players and a doubles pair to the Class A state tournament after a successful Section 5A individual tournament.

Breck’s Dylan Warn was the Section 5A champion after defeating teammate Patrick Green 6-1, 6-1 in the finals on May 22. The top two qualify for the state tournament.

Both players received a first-round bye. Warn won his quarter-final against Layton Griffith of DeLaSalle 6-3, 6-0. Green defeated Providence Academy’s Connor Niesen 6-3, 6-2 to qualify for the semifinals as well.

Warn and Green won their semifinal matches the following day to advance to the section championships. Warn swept Providence Academy’s Sachin Bloch 6-0, 6-0, and Green won 6-1, 6-1 over DeLaSalle’s Giovanni Crescini to set up the section final.

Breck doubles pair Enrico Petto and Enzo Petto also qualified for state after finishing second. The pair won their opening match, a quarterfinal against DeLaSalle pair Henry Eldred and Aidric Axvig. The brothers won 6-1, 6-1.

The Petto brothers won 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals over Providence Academy’s Alex Simons and Aidon Flynn.

The doubles championship was won by Gary Speier and Louie Wehmann from Providence Academy, who beat the Pettos 6-2, 6-4. This meant the Mustangs had to play in a true second match, which they won 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 over St. Anthony Village’s Hans Atte and Ayan Glaser.

In other doubles action, Breck’s Henry Parkhurst and Evan Walsh won 6-0, 6-0 in the first doubles round setting up a match against Otte and Glaser of St. Anthony where the duo lost 6-4, 6-4.

In other Section 5A action, Brooklyn Center’s Leo Cazales lost 6-1, 6-2 to DeLaSalle’s Griffith in the first round, while fellow Centaur Alexander Michael lost 6-1, 6-0 to Niesen of Providence Academy.

Brooklyn Center doubles pairing Chinuj Vang and Evan Yang lost their first-round match 6-2, 6-2 to a duo from DeLaSalle. Jonathan Nguyen and Ayden Khang also lost 6-2, 6-1 to a duo from DeLaSalle.
