Fourth seed Breck baseball played two games last week in the Section 5AA tournament, facing fifth seed Providence Academy and first seed Holy Family, beating both to move on to the section semifinals this week.

    Providence Academy

Breck continued a promising run in the Section 5AA tournament with a 3-0 win over Providence Academy on May 28 at home. Breck was 1-1 against Providence in the regular season but got a big win when it mattered most. Colin Mitchell was the star of the show, pitching a shutout and hitting a two-run home run to lead the Mustangs to victory.

    Holy Family

Breck followed its win over the Lions with a statement 4-2 win over Holy Family to qualify for the section semifinals the following week. Holy Family provided Breck with a threatening opponent in the quarterfinals due to not only being the first seed in the tournament, but also the number one ranked team in MSHSL Class AA this season.

Max Aronson, Mitchell, Thomas Belman, and Liam Cavanaugh all scored runs in the game. Aronson and Isaac Nguyen both had two RBI. Garrett Trench pitched the entire game for the Mustangs, throwing 107 pitches and earning six kills.

Breck will play second seed Southwest Christian the following week in the championship bracket semifinal on June 3 (after this edition went to press). That game will be played at Fritz Field in Cologne along with the remaining elimination games and championship game.
