Five years after the closing of Simpson United Methodist Church, Simpson Housing Services aims to break ground on their new homeless shelter redevelopment next week, according to a press release from Simpson.

The project is in collaboration with Project for Pride in Living, or PPL, and looks to create a facility that meets the short-term needs of people experiencing homelessness. PPL and Simpson developed the project together and hired Watson-Forsberg as the contractor, while LHB is the architect

There will be 72 beds available in the shelter, alongside 42 units of permanent supportive housing. There will be space in the shelter for on-site services for residents to access.

The groundbreaking ceremony will include remarks from Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Hennepin County Commissioner Marion Greene.

Simpson Housing Services was gifted the building in 2019, after Simpson United Methodist Church shuttered its doors, according to previous reporting from Finance & Commerce.
