A ribbon-cutting and grand opening of the newly restored Historic Coliseum Building in Minneapolis is scheduled for June 19.

The 85,000-square-foot building at 2700 E. Lake St. is reopening after a four-year restoration effort following the civil unrest in response to the murder of George Floyd, according to a press release.

Alicia Belton of Urban Design Perspectives, Janice Downing of CommonSense Consulting@Work, and restaurant/cocktail room owner Shanelle Montana of Lagniappe & Du Nord Cocktail Room co-developed the project with Community Development Corporation Redesign Inc.

The developers will be tenants and owners of the building, according to the release.

“The historic building has been brought back to life, ensuring long-term affordability for up to 30 BIPOC and other local entrepreneurs/small businesses.”

The June 19 event begins at 9 a.m. with coffee and tours, followed by the ribbon-cutting and remarks at 10 a.m.
