The Minnesota Twins are honoring the life of Minneapolis Police Officer Jamal Mitchell who was killed in the line of duty last month.

Mitchell had been with the department for just over a year and a half, and had recently completed his hiring process to join the Twins as a gameday officer.

Julie Vavruska is with the Twins and she talked about the importance of honoring Mitchell.

I just think it's really important to let fans know that this is also a part of the healing process for them," Vavruska says. "And the twins are going to make a $10,000 donation to LELS (Law Enforcement Labor Services) for the Jamal Mitchell family. We're going to have an opportunity for fans to donate as well during the game tonight."

She says there will be a police procession and a tribute played before the game as well.

Chief Brian O’Hara and the Minneapolis Police Department, along with suburban Hennepin County police chiefs, will join the Twins on the first base line and the Tampa Bay Rays on the third base line for the national anthem.
