10 cities in Minnesota included on list of best cycling cities in America

Both Minneapolis and St. Paul have been recognized among the best big cities for cyclists in the country.

People for Bikes recently released its annual city rankings. For cities with populations above 300,000, Minneapolis was ranked as the best city for cyclists in the country followed by Seattle and San Fransisco. Saint Paul took the fourth spot on the list.

Among all U.S. cities., Minneapolis ranked 32nd, with the top overall spot going to Mackinac Island in Michigan.

The ranking looks at factors including a city’s investments in bike infrastructure and any adjustments to speed limits. In the case of Minneapolis, People for Bikes pointed out the city’s 2020 decision to lower the default speed limit from 30 to 20 mph on residential streets and 25 mph on arterial streets.

The ranking also looked at the top cities for cyclists in each state. In Minnesota, the top cities are:

• Trail (Polk County)
• Maple Grove
• Woodbury
• Eden Prairie
• Eagan
• Prior Lake
• Rochester
