Minneapolis Neighborhood Hosts Annual 'Cat Tour' and It's Nothing Short of Perfect

My family and I often go around walks in our neighborhood. It's a great way to get my steps in without having to drive somewhere, and it's also a great way for my four year old (and our dog) to get all of her energy out. Aside from that, one of my favorite things about walking around the neighborhood is seeing people's pets. It makes my day to see a dog sleeping inside of a screen door, or to spot a cat perched in a window.

But what if there was a day when you could walk around your neighborhood and see everyone 's pets? That's exactly the event that one community has organized, and after watching this video, I'm absolutely convinced that this needs to happen everywhere.

Cats were on leashes, in strollers or gazing out windows for tour members to adore. On Wednesday, June 26 people gathered in the Wedge neighborhood of Minneapolis for the seventh annual Wedge LIVE cat tour. There were 22 stops. This year's theme was "fear and loathing on Hennepin Avenue." #mpr #mprnews #minnesota #cats #minneapolis đź“ą courtesy of Claire Barczak, editing by Anne Guttridge

This video from @mprnews shared on Thursday, June 27 shows footage from Minneapolis' Wedge neighborhood's annual cat tour, where people gather together to take a walk where they can see cats on display at people's houses, whether it was cats perched on the porch, cats in the windows of their homes, or cats on leashes with their humans.

Clearly, there's a high demand for an event like this, judging by the sheer number of people who seem to have showed up to the tour in its seventh year — and according to the caption on this TikTok video, there were 22 stops on the tour this time around!

It looks like people put out signs if their homes were a stop on the tour, and seeing people get so excited to walk up porch stairs and see a cat perched in the window is just too much.

We need more of this kind of happiness in our lives!

More About the Minneapolis Cat Tour

The speech that tour founder John Edwards made at the beginning of the tour can be found in full here , and it shares a lot more details of the event.

The tour is a total of two miles, with cat sightings both planned and not.

"They will be in windows, on porches, and in other spots nobody could have predicted. Many of these cats are pre-registered and expecting us. Some of them have no idea we’re coming and will take us by surprise," he said.

Last year, Edwards told local outlet KARE11 that the tour began in 2017 and only included one or two dozen people, but it's safe to say it's attracted a lot more than that since. And for him, at the heart of the tour, it's not just cats — it's humans.

"Once you've seen one cat, you've seen them all. It's the people that make it special," he said.

Maybe after seeing the level of popularity this tour has had, this tradition will spread to other areas as well. I'd love to go on one of these tours!
