Cat tossed from 12-story building ‘with no regard for her life’ is mending. Meet Rue

A 1-year-old cat in Minneapolis is being hailed as one tough kitty after she survived a brutal — and dramatic — fall.

Rue, a tabby with her whole life ahead of her, was thrown from a 12th-floor balcony and survived after hitting the pavement below, Home for Life Animal Sanctuary said in a July 2 news release.

“Minneapolis Animal Control reported that a juvenile at the scene testified multiple people witnessed the incident and that she was thrown from the balcony,” the sanctuary said.

“Rue miraculously survived but had a badly broken right leg, and a broken foot on the left leg. The most serious injury is the broken mandibular on both sides of the jaw. There was concern for additional internal injuries due to the height from which she was thrown.”

The sanctuary came to her aid with a dentist who helped Rue’s surgeons bond her canine teeth together as a less invasive method to help heal her jaw. Both of her legs were set in casts, as well.

“Rue is a courageous and resilient cat who is still trying to eat canned food, even with her damaged mouth, and even trying to groom herself despite her legs being in casts,” the release said. “It looks as if she will overcome the cruelty with which she was treated, thrown away, and over a balcony, with no regard for her life.”

Cruelty and torture to an animal can be considered either a misdemeanor or a felony in Minnesota.
