From what it once was to what it will be, North Commons Park, on the north side of Minneapolis, will undergo an incredible transformation.

North Commons Park has been a staple of the community since the 1970s. However, for a time sports teams were playing in poor conditions. That is until it got a mini-makeover.

John Outlaw spent 12 years as the park's director.

"It was a collaborative of entities bringing that to happen, to where the football field here, finally playing on real grass and not just weeds," says Outlaw. "And having the baseball diamond look like a baseball diamond."

And now the park will receive a $35 million facelift, which at one point was part of Outlaw's vision.

"We were just talking, and dreaming out loud," he says.

Now that vision is a reality and Outlaw says this is huge for the community.

"I'm happy and proud of, you know, people that are backing it and making it happen," Outlaw explains. "It's just another feather in the cap, basically, it's just community pride. Absolutely. I don't see anything but positivity."

Construction is set to begin in 2025.
