Caitlin Clark sells out Target Center

Caitlin Clark will pack a Minneapolis basketball arena this weekend for the third time this year as she makes her first appearance here as a pro.

The big picture: Clark's Indiana Fever will take on the Lynx at Target Center at 3pm Sunday. The Lynx are expecting a sellout of 18,978 — the largest regular-season crowd in franchise history.

    • Only Game 5 of the 2016 WNBA Finals brought a bigger crowd for a Lynx matchup.

Why it matters: Clark has driven interest in the WNBA to new heights , and the Lynx will have two home games to capitalize off her popularity.

    • Sunday's game is expected to generate $1 million in ticket sales, the most ever for the Lynx.

The latest: The team released the final 1,000 tickets on Wednesday for seats in the upper level behind the basket, which are usually closed off for Wolves games due to a tight concourse on the second level .

Yes, but: There's too much interest in Clark not to sell those seats. She also sold out Target Center for the Big Ten tournament in March.

💭 Our thought bubble: Come for Clark, but stay to watch the Lynx, who have the best record in the WNBA's Western Conference, take on an Indiana team fighting for a playoff spot.

What we're watching: Clark's Fever return to Target Center Aug. 25, which is also the night the team will retire Maya Moore's jersey.

    • Clark, who grew up a few hours south in Des Moines, was a huge fan of Moore and the Lynx as a kid.
