A man was saved on Saturday by Minneapolis Fire Department after falling from a cliff along the Mississippi River.

Fire crews responded at approximately 4:19 p.m. to St. Anthony Ave and East River Pkwy., and arrived to find the man injured, lying on his side on the steep riverbank.

Fire crews began scaling down the cliff with a rescue blanket and medical equipment to provide care until he could be taken to paramedics.

The man was placed onto a backboard and into the rescue basket before he was carried down the bank and into a rescue boat.

The boat took the man to the University of Minnesota boat launch, where paramedics were waiting to take him to Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment. He is currently in stable condition.

The man's identity has not yet been released, nor have any details regarding the circumstances of his fall.
