The Twin Cities Pro Am basketball tournament returned to Minneapolis last week with three days of games at Minnehaha Academy to complete week one of four in the regular season. The tournament has earned its place in Minnesota’s ever-expanding basketball tradition by bringing together professional, college and high-level high school players to duke it out on the court in front of packed gyms.

This year’s tournament features several players with local connections, with some playing for area schools while two called the west metro home while attending DeLaSalle. That group includes Double Down’s Jamison Battle (Robbinsdale-native, DeLaSalle) and Josiah Strong (Champlin Park), Team Lamb Chop’s Rashad Vaughn (Robbinsdale Cooper), Team Sizzle’s Nasir Whitlock (Plymouth-native, DeLaSalle) and Team YHIC’s Race Thompson (Robbinsdale Armstrong).

Vaughn starred in a strong start for Lamb Chop last week, playing the majority of the minutes across the team’s two week one wins against Team Tyus and Strickly BBall with a promising connection with Tartan-alum Antwan Kimmons. Lamb Chops were one of two teams that went 2-0 in week one. Whitlock played a key role in a complex week one for Team Sizzle. Sizzle lost game one but earned a big game two 85-82 comeback win over Double Down with the help of Whitlock.

    Lamb Chops 100-90 Team Tyus

    YHIC 98-66 Sizzle

    Sizzle 85-82 Double Down

    Lamb Chops 93-73 Strickly BBall

    Team Tyus 104-102 Double Down

    YHIC 87-62 Strickly BBall
